Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the Certificate in Data Analytics in Education and the Certificate in Data-Based Decision Making?
This Certificate in Data Analytics in Education focuses on research design related to education, data collection, and data analysis using statistical software. With this certificate, you will be prepared to use data to make conclusions using statistics and visualization software. The data-based decision making certificate is intended for teachers or other education-related practitioners who want to understand how to design good tests, use school report card data, and other forms of data to form conclusions that inform their practice, and how to cultivate a culture of data use within their schools or other educational organizations.
Will this certificate lead to a new career?
This certificate will give you enough information and background in data analytics to make you eligible for some positions, though others may want you to have a full Master’s degree in data analytics. At CSU, you can apply the courses from the Certificate in Data Analytics in Education toward a Master of Education in Research and Assessment. The Master's program will give students without a master's degree a more complete educational background. For positions that require a doctorate, our Ph.D. in Urban Education includes a series of three quantitative research courses that would leave you well-prepared for any data analytics position in education.
