Technical Information

To be successful while taking online courses, you must be able to:

  • Send and receive email with attachments
  • Download files, programs and plug-ins
  • Install programs and plug-ins
  • Use Internet browsers, word processing applications (Word, Pages or Open Office) and media players to navigate and interact in the Blackboard environment

For the most trouble-free experience with Blackboard and the online tools used at Cleveland State University, Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox are recommended. However, Blackboard does support the browsers found in the link below:

In addition, use the Browser Settings Guide below to setup your browser to work with Blackboard. You will want to allow cookies, enable JavaScript and the Java plug-in and allow pop-up windows:

Blackboard Mobile

The Blackboard interface has been optimized for desktop displays, so using a mobile device for actual coursework may not work well. Blackboard is not officially supported on mobile browsers. For an improved experience, there is an official Blackboard app for download for iOS and Android devices. However, it is important to note that the mobile apps do not provide full functionality or the security that you would get with a laptop or desktop computer. We strongly recommend that whenever possible, you complete any assignment, test, or quiz on a more stable internet connection using a laptop or desktop.
